Balloons in the hand and staples in the feet.

I’ve just arrived to the Burbank airport to sit quietly at my gate. I now have a moment to reflect on the “Security” of flying.

For health considerations (radiation, DNA mutation, etc) I do not go through the scanners- even though they claim that is it “safe.” Instead of spending the 5 seconds of standing in the chamber of millimeter waves, I choose to subject myself to the shameful, time consuming, treat-me-like-a-criminal rubdown, ahem, patdown. They touch every part of my body, EVERY PART- the crack of my ass and the lips of my nether regions. They have decidedly made it so unpleasant that most people would never go for it again and instead, take the risks of radiation, cancer and DNA mutation over it. Sadly, people are not educated enough to think for themselves about things that concern their own health.

I know that going through the scanner a couple times a year isn’t going to kill me outright and I’m not flying every weekend. But I do it as a not-so-silent protest in addition to my concerns of health and safety.

The TSA people are always surprised that this young, attractive woman is asking to be “legally” molested. If everyone refused to use those scanning machines, they just wouldn’t have the time to pat everyone down and maybe we could return to the days where terror didn’t reign.

But since people most often eat what they are fed, they line up for their little dose of cancer so the doctors and pharmacutical companies make their quotas.

In response to your essay, I don't know you well enough but I can say that I love your essence; Fresh, kind and playful. Thinking of you and hope you are well!
